Dad's Surgery update

Dad had knee replacement surgery on Thursday. Typical to my father, his recovery has been abnormal. On Friday, he was in a lot of pain and still on morphine drip, unable to do much therapy because the pain meds were making him sleep. Saturday his hemoglobin dropped to 6.9 and he received two units of blood. Sunday, he received two more units when the hemoglobin was still low at 7.5.

Today is Monday. The standard for being able to leave the hospital after this surgery is walking 70 feet. He has not been able to do more than stand on a couple of occassions. Between his hemoglobin being low and making him weak, and his pain medications making him sleepy, he can't do the needed therapy. So.. today they are working on stabilizing him medically. They want his hemoglobin to rise and stay at a number above 9.5. Once he is cleared medically, he will be transferred to a "skilled-care facility" to get his physical therapy and finish recovering.

Hoping and praying that he moves forward quickly.
