Libby

Liberty is our new puppy's name, but the boys have taken to calling her Libby. So now we have two dogs; Lincoln and Liberty.
Lincoln is a 75lb Golden Retriever/Lab mix. Libby is a 4lb beagle/daschund mix. They are beginning to get to know one another, in that strange lick/sniff/nip dog play kind of way.

Lincoln is remarkably patient with the new puppy, especially since she likes to wait until he is sleeping to chew on his paw or tail. He has been really tolerant, no teeth, no growling, no real biting.. just a few nips to teach her the rules. Linc even lets Libby eat out of his bowl without a fuss, so I think they will eventually be great pals. The hardest part now is their size difference. Lincoln gets excited to play with Libby and sometimes loses track of where she is in relation ship to his paws. Usually Libby is hiding under his belly, so she is in a prime location to get stepped on. We have been pretty good about watching them closely until they figure each other out.

Libby has proven, so far, to be as easy as Lincoln in the housebreaking department. Either that, or I am just plain great at training puppies:) She has not had an accident since we brought her home on Saturday morning. I take her out first thing in the morning, 30 minutes after she eats and every 3 hours, if she hasn't gone. She even slept through the night last night. Our project now is to teach her to go to the door and ask to go out. This should be easy, since she sees Lincoln do it all the time and she has already equated the feel of grass under her paws with the place to do her business. Once that is done, we will work on helping her find a way to make it down the steps on her own. She tumbles down head over tail right now because she is too small!!
